Qorvo's ACT2803 is a high-performance, low-profile battery management IC that enables the smallest size solutions for backup battery packs and standalone battery chargers. Each solution can be implemented with a single ACT2803 IC.
The product integrates all the functions that a backup battery pack needs, including switching charger, cell balancing, boost converter and LED indication. The product also includes an input to obtain user feedback (for example, via a push button), to support various user-interface functions such as turn on/off charging and query charging status. The IC supports LED indication to display charging level on 4 LEDs.
ACT2803 operates at 400 kHz for switching charger and 400 kHz for boost converter allowing tiny external inductor and capacitors. ACT2803 provides a direct power path from input to output with programmable current limit while providing power to switching charger. Output has higher priority than battery charger if the programmed input current limit is reached.
The product charges the battery with the full cycle of preconditioning, fast charge with constant current and constant voltage until end of charge. The battery charger is thermally regulated at 110 °C with charge current foldback. The product's boost converter steps battery voltage up to 5 V. The boost converter features high efficiency, constant current regulation, short circuit protection and over-voltage protection.

This document describes the characteristic and operation of the Qorvo EA2803QJ-T and ACT2804QJ-T0435 Evaluation Kit (EVK). It provides setup and operation instructions, schematic, layout, BOM, and test data.
To access all registers download the software GUI. (Note: ACT2803 and ACT2804 use the same GUI.)
This EVK demonstrates the ACT2803 ActivePMU™ power management IC.
The ACT2803 / ACT2804 Graphical User Interface (GUI) is packaged in a ZIP file that includes the software and all necessary drivers to communicate with the EA2803QJ-T, EA2803QJ-T0435, EA2804QJ-T and EA2804QJ-T0435 Evaluation Kits, as well instructions on how to use the tool.
