DC to 20 GHz GaAs Distributed Driver Amp Offers Positive Gain Slope, Low Noise Figure in QFN Package

The CMD192C5 is the plastic packaged (QFN) version of the highly popular CMD192 amplifier that until now had only been available in die form.

The CMD192C5 is a wideband GaAs MMIC distributed amplifier that operates from DC to 20 GHz and has a positive gain slope versus frequency. This design feature allows for the cascading of multiple amplifiers without the need for extra gain compensation circuitry. The amplifier delivers greater than 19 dB of gain with a corresponding output of 1dB compression point of +25 dBm, and has a low noise figure of 1.9 dB at 10 GHz. The CMD192C5 is a 50 Ohm matched design, housed in a Pb-free, RoHs-compliant, 5x5 mm SMT package.

Ideal applications for the CMD192C5 are microwave radio and VSAT, telecom infrastructure, test instrumentation, military and space, and fiber optics.

1-24 GHz GaAs Driver Amplifier Delivers +20 dBm of Output Power

The CMD197 offers 16 dB of flat gain with a corresponding output 1 dB compression point of greater than +20 dBm and an output IP3 of greater than +30 dBm across its entire bandwidth. The driver amplifier also includes a number of features including a single positive bias requirement, an on-chip bias choke, 50 Ohm port matches, wide bandwidth, and high linearity. Full passivation of the die ensures increased reliability and moisture protection.

Ideal applications for the CMD197 include military and space, wideband communication systems, microwave radio, VSAT, and test instrumentation.

Custom MMIC Adds Two Non-Reflective Switches to Expanding Product Line

Custom MMIC is introducing two new DC-18 GHz SPDT non-reflective switches, the CMD195C3 and the CMD196C3. While both switches cover the same bandwidth and are housed in the same 3x3 mm RoHS-compliant SMT package, they differ in their insertion loss.

The CMD195C3 has an insertion loss of 2.25 dB at the low end of its bandwidth, which then reduces monotonically to 1.5 dB at the higher frequencies. The positive slope in insertion loss versus frequency allows for several of the CMD195C3s to be cascaded together without the need for additional gain equalization circuitry. By contrast, the CMD196C3 is a general purpose SPDT design with a low insertion loss of 1.5 dB that increases slightly as the frequency approaches the upper end of the operating bandwidth.

Both switches electronically terminate the isolated port, have an isolation of 40 dB or greater, and a fast switching speed time of 1.8 nS. Switching is controlled by complementary negative logic levels of 0/-5 V. Ideal applications for these innovative new switches include microwave radio and VSAT, telecom infrastructure, test instrumentation, and military end-use.

Ultra Low Noise GaAs Amplifiers Operate from 10 to 17 GHz

The CMD167 and the CMD167P3 both are ideally suited for EW and communications systems where small size and low power consumption are needed.

The CMD167 die is a highly efficient, ultra low noise GaAs MMIC amplifier that operates from 10 to 17 GHz. The CMD167P3 is the packaged version of the amplifier which operates from 8 to 16 GHz. At 14 GHz, both the CMD167 and the CMD167P3 deliver greater than 15 dB of gain, with an output 1 dB compression point of +11 dBm and a noise figure of 1.8 dB. Both are 50 ohm matched designs, thereby eliminating the need for external DC blocks and RF port matching.

The CMD167 and CMD167P3 each require a single positive supply voltage for operation. The CMD167 is available as a bare die for hybrid assemblies, whereas the CMD167P3 is housed in a leadless 3x3 mm plastic surface mount package.
