Budweiser Budvar: Solving Logistics Challenges

Budweiser Budvar: Solving Logistics Challenges

UWB-based micro-location solution offers point-to-point tracking, as seen in these industrial use cases.

Modern warehouse logistics demand speed accuracy and adaptability, but complexity can quickly overwhelm legacy systems. That was the case for Budweiser Budvar Brewery, which produces ten beer varieties with dozens of label versions and ships to 76 countries from a single location in the Czech Republic. Managing more than 20,000 pallets across indoor and outdoor facilities pushed the limits of traditional tracking tools. To keep operations flowing and data actionable, the brewery turned to Qorvo’s Ultra-Wideband technology to bring clarity and precision to its warehouse operations.

“UWB gave us the real-time accuracy and reliability we needed to finally unlock value from our warehouse data.” — Budweiser Budvar Operations Team

The Challenge: Scaling Warehouse Visibility Beyond the Limits of RFID

Budweiser Budvar relied on a passive RFID system that mounted anchors on forklifts to track pallet locations. While effective at first, the system struggled as complexity grew. Reliability issues caused disruptions, maintenance and scaling costs increased and the system lacked the precision required for real-time analytics. With 360 product combinations and constant pallet movement across large indoor and outdoor spaces, the brewery needed a dependable solution that could deliver accurate location data without adding operational friction or waste. The existing RFID approach simply could not keep pace with the demands of modern warehouse logistics.

The Solution: A High-Precision UWB RTLS That Delivers Measurable Gains

The brewery replaced RFID with Sewio’s UWB-based real-time location system, using time-of-flight ranging methods like TWR and TDoA to achieve reliable positioning even in reflective industrial environments. Seventy UWB anchors covered 15,000 square meters while tags on 15 forklifts delivered 30-centimeter accuracy indoors and outdoors. Installation took about one month followed by seamless ERP integration. The results were immediate and measurable, including a 19 percent increase in system uptime and a 19 percent improvement in warehouse utilization. By adopting UWB, Budweiser Budvar gained precise real-time visibility, reduced operational waste and unlocked analytics that continue to optimize warehouse performance.
