omlox defines interfaces for omlox core zone and omlox hub: using these technologies, UWB-based (ultra-wideband) devices from different manufacturers can be located in one localization zone, and location information from complementary localization technologies can be mapped holistically.

Manufacturing in the 1980s would never survive today’s demands. Modern production is no longer just mechanical output but a fully connected smart ecosystem powered by real-time insight. Germany’s high-tech leader Trumpf has become a pioneer in this transformation through its adoption of Qorvo Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology supported by our chipsets and omlox real-time location standards. With deep roots in precision tooling and laser cutting, Trumpf is now proving how accurate location data can unlock major operational gains and propel manufacturers toward Industry 4.0 maturity.

“Overall productivity went up dramatically. On-time delivery improved and failure rates dropped—all just from implementing RTLS.” — Eberhard Wahl, CEO, Trumpf Tracking

The Challenge: Achieving the Precision and Visibility Smart Factories Require

As factories become more digitized manufacturers need more than rough estimates of where parts tools or machines are located. They need accurate real-time visibility inside environments filled with metal surfaces moving equipment and constant change. Traditional technologies like RFID or Wi-Fi often fail in these reflective industrial settings leaving gaps that stall digital transformation. Trumpf sought a location solution that could scale globally across multiple facilities deliver high accuracy in harsh conditions support emerging use cases like AMRs and digital twins and provide the reliable data foundation required to reach the upper levels of Industry 4.0 maturity.

The Solution: UWB-Powered RTLS

Trumpf deployed UWB-based real-time location systems across sites in the United States Germany and Austria using our 3000-series UWB chipsets that excel in reflective industrial spaces. Tags and sensors were added to tools products transport units and operators enabling use cases from production planning to AR-guided workflows and HEV navigation. Cloud-capable omlox standards ensured interoperability so devices from different vendors could work together as deployments scaled. Through trial-and-error co-innovation with Qorvo Trumpf developed its omlox Air 8 platform which delivers precise resilient and future-proof tracking that forms the backbone of its smart factories. With measurable boosts in productivity quality and on-time delivery Trumpf views UWB not as an upgrade but a competitive necessity for any manufacturer aiming to lead in the Industry 4.0 era.
