VELUX: Using Real Operational Data to Increase Productivity

VELUX: Using Real Operational Data to Increase Productivity

June 8, 2026

An infographic outlining industrial use cases for UWB

In modern manufacturing knowing exactly where people materials and machines are located is no longer a nice-to-have—it is foundational to efficiency safety and digital transformation. Qorvo Ultra-Wideband technology delivers centimeter-level accuracy that enables factories to move beyond static tracking and into real-time operational intelligence. By creating a living digital model of the factory floor UWB helps manufacturers understand who is doing what where and when, turning location data into insight that drives better decisions across production safety and maintenance.

“Once you can see your factory in real time you can finally understand how it truly operates.” — Manufacturing Operations Team

The Challenge: Achieving the Precision Needed for True Digital Factories

Traditional location technologies such as GPS Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy fall short in industrial environments. GPS lacks indoor accuracy while narrow-band wireless signals struggle with reflections interference and signal loss caused by metal machinery walls and vehicles. For manufacturers pursuing digital twins and advanced analytics this lack of precision creates blind spots that limit productivity and safety improvements. VELUX Modular Skylights faced this challenge as it modernized its factory operations in Denmark. To support automation ergonomic workstations and real-time decision making the company needed a location system accurate and reliable enough to track people machines and work in progress across the entire shop floor.

The Solution: A UWB-Based Digital Twin Delivering Measurable Results

VELUX implemented a UWB-based real-time location system using 12 anchors and 59 tags to create a digital twin of its 2,304-square-meter factory. Forklifts automated worktables and workers were tracked in real time enabling AGVs to deliver materials to the right station and automatically adjust equipment height for worker safety. The system identified available skilled workers alerted nearby staff when needed and provided managers with continuous insight into production flow and maintenance needs. Powered by UWB time-of-flight ranging methods the solution delivered the precision required in reflective industrial environments. The results included a 10 percent increase in productivity a 50 percent improvement in maintenance performance and a 10 percent reduction in work in progress—demonstrating how UWB transforms location data into real operational value.
